Why I assaulted my daughter, Ilebaye – Father
Recent reports confirm that Emmanuel Odiniya, the father of Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, was arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on May 9, 2026, following a domestic dispute that resulted in a physical assault at their residence in Abuja.
The Father’s Explanation
In a statement released on May 10, Mr. Odiniya provided his perspective on the incident, citing a buildup of family tension and perceived disrespect:
Lack of Appreciation: He claimed that despite using his influence to mobilize votes for her during the reality show, he felt his efforts were unappreciated once she returned.
Financial Disagreement: He alleged the conflict intensified when he asked Ilebaye for a loan to fund a medical check-up in Dubai. He claimed she told him she had no money, but he later observed her spending significant amounts at a friend's wedding.
Communication Breakdown: He described a pattern where he would attempt to book time to speak with her multiple times a week without success, leading to further frustration.
Police Intervention and Status
The incident gained public attention after Ilebaye hosted a distressed Instagram Live session showing visible bruises and a swollen face while calling for help.
Rescue Operation: Police from the Wuye Division responded to a midnight distress call at Royal Anchor Estate. Officers reportedly had to force entry into the compound at approximately 2:30 a.m. after being locked out.
Medical Care: Ilebaye and her two younger brothers (ages 10 and 14) were rescued and taken to the hospital for medical attention. Their father also reportedly sustained injuries during the altercation and received treatment under police supervision.
Protective Custody: As of May 11, 2026, the FCT Police confirmed that Ilebaye and her siblings have been moved into protective custody, while Emmanuel Odiniya remains in police custody as investigations continue.
