Two dead in World Cup celebrations in Mexico City

On Wednesday, at least two individuals lost their lives during extensive celebrations in Mexico City, following the national team's advancement to the next round of the World Cup, as reported by local authorities.

According to the city's health ministry, a 19-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man succumbed to asphyxiation.

Authorities have yet to verify the reported death of a third individual, as mentioned by local media.

The celebrations erupted after Mexico triumphed over Ecuador, marking their first knockout victory in the World Cup since 1986, thereby propelling the co-hosts into the round of 16.

Estimates from the city government indicate that over a million people congregated in the streets of Mexico City, primarily around the Angel of Independence monument.
