Passport services not suspended, NIS assures Nigerians

The Nigeria Immigration Service has reassured citizens that passport services throughout the nation have not been halted, despite the recent transition of additional passport branches to the Central Personalization Centre.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, the service clarified that this migration is a strategic administrative improvement intended to enhance passport production and security, rather than a disruption of services.

"The recent transition of additional passport branches to the Central Personalization Centre is a strategic administrative improvement, not a suspension of services," stated the NIS.

It further explained that passport applicants may continue to visit their assigned passport offices for biometric enrollment without any interruptions.

"Applicants can still go to their local centers to complete biometric data capture smoothly. This centralized production framework is designed to comply with global security standards, optimize processing times, and significantly protect the integrity of the Nigerian passport," the Service emphasized.

The NIS also assured citizens that passport capturing centers are fully operational and that the production and distribution of passport booklets are proceeding within the usual timeframe.

"Citizens can be confident that capturing centers are fully operational, with physical booklets processed efficiently and returned to local commands within standard delivery periods," the statement concluded.
