Top 10 US companies sponsoring work visas for Nigerians, how to apply

The United States has established a pathway for Nigerian professionals aiming to find employment in the country through H-1B visa sponsorship.

This information was revealed in a publication by Ellis Visa Sponsors, a US immigration law firm, on Monday.

The H-1B visa program allows US employers to hire highly skilled foreign professionals for specialized positions that generally require at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

Despite the program's competitiveness due to the annual visa cap, numerous US companies continue to sponsor thousands of qualified international workers each year.

Data obtained from Ellis Visa Sponsors, which monitors over 180,000 US employers, highlights the companies that consistently rank among the top H-1B visa sponsors.

In explaining the processes involved in obtaining the visa, the immigration firm stated, “Securing U.S. visa sponsorship can seem complex, particularly if you are uncertain about where to begin. The regulations are intricate, the documentation is stringent, and errors can result in delays or rejections.

“This guide simplifies visa sponsorship—explaining what it entails, who is eligible, and the necessary steps—enabling you to make informed decisions with assurance.

”A US visa sponsor is either a US employer or an eligible family member (typically a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) who formally supports a foreign national’s visa or Green Card process. For employment-based sponsorship, the employer agrees to comply with U.S. immigration laws, including requirements set by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of Labor (DOL).

“This often includes filing petitions, paying the prevailing wage, and maintaining compliance throughout the individual’s employment. Both non-immigrant work visas (temporary) and immigrant visas (permanent residence) may require sponsorship.”

Step-by-Step Guide on applying for the work visa

With many moving parts and tight registration and application windows, it’s easy to be confused by the H-1B process. Here’s a quick guide to help employers sponsor their employees for an H-1B visa.

Step 1: Register for the Electronic Lottery

When the registration period opens (usually in March), employers should register each candidate they want to sponsor through the H-1B Registration process. The registration only involves paying a $215 fee and submitting forms of the employee’s identification, like their passport.

For fiscal year 2026, the registration period opened on March 7th, 2025, and closed on March 24th, 2025.

Step 2: File the Labor Condition Application (LCA)

For candidates selected via the lottery system, employers must file their LCA with the DOL. The DOL takes seven working days to review LCAs.

Step 3: Submit the H-1B Petition (Form I-129)

Once an employer receives certified LCAs, they can submit an I-129 form (Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker) to USCIS. The petition should include the LCA, the employee’s credentials, the job description, and the payment for all related filing fees.
